Unionized cafeteria workers have won the right to eat expired food for free
In a western Pennsylvania school district, union cafeteria workers have won the right to eat free expired food, at their own risk.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Catholic Online) - On Monday, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees filed against the Sharpsville Area School district last year due to school officials "violating established past practice" by not allowing workers to eat free expired food.

Food items that are past their expiration and cannot be served to students may still be eaten by the cafeteria workers for free, under the new agreement. The newspaper received a copy of the settlement, which was approved by the school board last month.

Workers, however, still must pay for the unexpired food they eat.
